About the Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is comprised of seven members, each appointed by the Mayor or a member of the Madera City Council. Appointees serve four-year terms and must reside within city limits. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm.
Responsibilities
The Commission develops, maintains, and amends the General Plan and Specific Plans as needed. It reviews and approves development proposals, including subdivisions, use permits, and variances. Additionally, the Commission discusses overall planning for the City—such as ordinances, special studies, zoning, subdivisions, and signs—and provides recommendations to the Madera City Council.
