The Madera Police Explorer Program offers local youth ages 14 to 21 an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in law enforcement. Sanctioned by the Boy Scouts of America and staffed by members of the Madera Police Department, the program is entirely volunteer-based and provides meaningful service to both the department and the community.
Explorers receive academic and technical training designed to prepare them for potential careers in law enforcement. The program also promotes leadership development, teamwork, and self-discipline—skills that support success in any path they pursue.
Becoming a Police Explorer
To join, applicants must first complete Explorer Probation, an introductory training course that covers:
- Physical conditioning
- Reading, writing, and comprehension
- Interpersonal communication
- Basic technical and police-related skills
Explorer Probation is led by experienced Explorer Advisors and current Explorers serving as instructors.
Serving the Community
Upon completing probation, participants officially become Madera Police Explorers. In this role, they support the Police Department and the community by assisting with:
- Traffic control at events
- Child fingerprinting for “Kid Print” safety programs
- Community event staffing
- Administrative tasks and outreach efforts
The program provides a unique opportunity for youth to grow as leaders while contributing to the safety and well-being of their community.
