Drop-in Recreation

The City of Madera Parks & Community Services Department offers the Youth Recreation Program,  designed for youth in grades K-12 and offers a variety of fun, engaging activities, and games that foster friendships and keep both the body and mind active. All activities are led by experienced recreation staff, qualified volunteers, or program partners from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. All participants must check in with staff and have a Youth Recreation Pass on file.

Our Community Programs Pass allows for participation in various community programs presented by The City of Madera Parks and Community Services Department.

In partnership with the Madera County Department of Public Health, the City of Madera Parks and Community Services Department offers free programs like Whip it Up Wednesday, Toddler Time, and Karate classes to encourage healthy living and community participation. These initiatives, funded by the CalFresh Grant, aim to provide valuable skills and activities for children and families, thereby contributing to the development of a stronger and healthier community overall.

Space is limited and classes tend to fill up fast. 

This drop-in program is offered during our Open Recreation program! Perfect for kids in grades 1-12, this is an opportunity to sharpen your culinary skills and unleash your creativity in the kitchen. Each fun-filled class teaches basic  cooking skills while creating simple and healthy dishes that are delicious. Participants must sign up with Recreation staff on the day of class.

John W. Wells Youth Center - Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm. Grades 1-12

Pan-American Community Center - Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm. Grades 1-12

The Karate class will offer instruction in the martial art of karate, which involves techniques such as punches, kicks, strikes, and blocks. This class focuses on teaching the student self-defense skills, improving physical fitness, developing discipline, and cultivating mental focus and concentration.

Grades: 1st - 2nd - 5:00 to 5:50 p.m. | Grades: 3rd - 4th - 6:00 to 6:50 p.m.

Toddler Time is an enrichment program for ages 2 to 5 years old. The program is centered around active learning/ healthy living, parent and child will participate in:

  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Active Play
